Planning Ahead

Some people choose to think about and discuss their funeral wishes in advance. While it may not always feel easy to do so, planning ahead can bring clarity and reassurance for both the individual and their family.

Byrne’s Funeral Directors, Crablane are available to offer guidance to anyone who would like to consider their options or record their preferences.

Why Consider Planning Ahead?

Taking time to consider your wishes in advance can make things easier for those close to you. It allows decisions to be made without pressure and can help to:

• reduce uncertainty for family members
• ensure that your preferences are understood
• make funeral arrangements more straightforward

Even outlining a few key wishes can be very helpful at a later time.

Why Consider Planning Ahead?

There are a number of aspects of a funeral that can be thought about ahead of time, including:

• burial or cremation
• type and location of the service
• music, readings or prayers
• choice of coffin
• details to be included in the funeral notice

Some people choose to write these preferences down, while others prefer to share them with a family member.

Talking to Family

Having a conversation with those close to you can be one of the most helpful steps. Letting family members know your wishes can ease the burden of decision-making in the future.

These conversations do not need to be detailed, but they can provide reassurance and guidance when the time comes.

Looking Ahead

For those who wish to take things a step further, it is also possible to formally record funeral wishes or make more detailed arrangements in advance.

This can include setting out clear instructions or considering practical aspects of the funeral ahead of time. Some people also choose to explore options that allow them to plan or contribute towards the cost of their funeral in advance.

Our Role

If you would like to discuss planning ahead, Byrne’s Funeral Directors can provide guidance and answer any questions you may have.
